This policy explains what information Rate Radar (“Rate Radar”, “we”, “us”) handles when you use the app or this website, and the choices you have. We operate no user accounts and no servers that store your personal data.
1. Data that stays on your device
Rate Radar stores the following locally on your device so the app works and works offline. We never receive it:
- Your conversion history and quick amounts.
- Your watchlist (the currency pairs you follow) and your rate alerts.
- Your settings: language, preferred currencies, the city you pick for “What does this buy?”, and onboarding status.
- Cached exchange rates and chart history.
You can remove watchlist items and alerts, use Clear history in the app, or uninstall Rate Radar to erase everything it stored.
2. Exchange-rate requests
To show rates, the app requests public data directly from third-party providers. Like any internet request, the provider can see your IP address and basic technical details (such as device type). The requests contain currency codes and dates. They never contain your amounts, history, watchlist or alerts. Alerts are evaluated on your device.
| Provider | Used for |
|---|---|
| ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com) | Latest exchange rates |
| Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev) | Historical rates and Rate Score (ECB data) |
| currency-api via jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) | Historical snapshots for currencies not covered by the ECB |
These providers have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Rate Radar is free and supported by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdMob (banner, interstitial and native ads). To show and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google and its partners may collect and use:
- Your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Android Advertising ID on Android).
- Your IP address and approximate location derived from it.
- Device and app information (model, OS version, language) and how you interact with ads.
Depending on your region and your consent, ads may be personalized. Your conversions, watchlist and alerts are never sent to advertisers. Learn more in how Google uses data from partner apps and the Google Privacy Policy.
Consent
Where the law requires it (for example the EEA, the UK and some US states), Rate Radar shows a Google consent form (User Messaging Platform) before requesting ads. On iOS, the app also asks for permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads are limited to what your choices allow, and if consent is required but not given, ads are not requested.
4. Your choices
- Ad consent: where your region requires it, open More → Ad privacy options in the app to review or change your choice at any time.
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, to allow or deny tracking for Rate Radar.
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads, to reset your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalization.
- Delete data: clear history, remove alerts and watchlist items, or uninstall the app.
5. Permissions
- Internet: to fetch exchange rates and load ads.
- Advertising ID (Android): used by the ads SDK, as described above.
- Tracking (iOS): only if you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Rate Radar does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or notification permissions, and does not use analytics or crash-reporting services of its own.
6. Children
Rate Radar is a general-audience finance utility and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through ads or otherwise, contact us and we will help.
7. Your rights
Because we do not hold an account or store your personal data on our own servers, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights over data processed by advertising partners. You can exercise them through the consent and device controls above, through Google’s data and privacy controls, or by contacting us and we will point you in the right direction. We do not sell personal information in exchange for money.
8. Security and retention
Data stored by Rate Radar lives in your device’s app storage and is protected by your device’s own security. It is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Requests to rate providers and ad networks are made over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if the app adds features. We will change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will make the update visible in the app or on this page.
